Behold, The Internet! |
For the first issue Bongo provided a full page introduction and then the first page of the story
provided the following Futurama introduction:
Welcome to the World of Tomorrow! FUTURAMA -- Featuring --
Fry: Cryogenically-frozen 20th-century pizza delivery boy,
thawed out in the year 3000!
Bender: Cigar smoking, booze-powered, bending robot!
Leela: Cyclops spaceship captain and martial arts expert!
Prof. Farnsworth: Crackpot inventor and owner of Planet Express Delivery Service!
Hermes Conrad: Anal-retentive Planet Express bureaucrat!
Dr. Zoidberg: Poverty-stricken staff physician!
Amy Wong: Planet Express intern from Mars University!
Following the Faux advertisement is a two page feature titled The Fry That Time Forgot showing
the evolution of the Fry character from the initial concept to the Fry we know. This is then followed
by a single page feature titled Behold, The Internet! that provides twenty-three URL's of
Futurama fan sites.
Following the masthead we have the following section worth repeating;
Lest we forget...
It's no secret that Futurama Comics is based on a hilariously cool TV show, also known as
Futurama! Everyone here at Bongo Comics would like to take this opportunity to thank some
of the people responsible for giving us such a fantastic model. A tip of the hat to David X. Cohen
and the incredible Futurama writing staff! Muchos gracias to Claudia Katz, Gregg Vanzo, Rich Moore,
and all the talented artists and animators at Rough Draft Studios! A big Bongo bravo to Mili Smythe
and the Futurama art department! And a warm and fuzzy group hug to all the actors, producers, editors,
musicians, and assistants who have worked their bots off to
make Futurama so phenomenal! We couldn't have done it without you!

20 Questions With Futurama Producer David K. Cohen!! |
Bongo Beat: Strip Teaser discusses the history and status of Simpsons comic strips.
A Simpsons comics strip debuted in January 1999 in The London Times as part of their Saturday
Meg@ magazine. Then in September 1999 it appeared in 50 newspapers in the United States.
This Bongo Beat also appeared in Simpsons Comics #54,
and was followed by a different two page reprint of one of the original strips.
The letters section encourages readers to send their Futurama inspired letters and art and
asks for suggestions to name the Futurama Comics column, as all the other Bongo comics
have their own titles. Not only will the winner receive art and sketches, but the authors
and artists chosen for publication will receive similar bonuses.

The first thing to note is the cover that appears to be embeded in a CGC - Certified Graded Comic case
when we have in fact the actual cover is designed to appear that way - with this one being
a CIC - Comics Incarceration Co-op case, certified Minty Fresh 11.5.
Just as we have new X-Men bursting out of the cover on the right from Giant-Size X-Men #1 from
July 1975 with the original X-Men looking on we have a new set of Futurama characters bursting out of
Futurama #8 with the originals looking on in the background. Completing the parody we have
a blue ribbon across the top, a white background and red letters for the headings. Having said all that
the real find is within where the X-Men parody continues, something we'll detail subsequently!
