Jason Grode and Associate Publisher title dropped from masthead.
Effective with this issue the design of the front cover changed; "Simpsons Comics" now appears within
a tilted banner, the Bongo logo moves from top left to top right and a character icon appears on the top
left, starting with Mr. Teeny on this issue. The next cover change begins with
Simpsons Comics #75.
Text on flip cover:

Title for the first story appears here only on the cover.
Bongo Beat: Daze of Future Passed discusses the long lead time for publishing calendars. It then
includes an unofficial endorsement for The Unauthorized Guide to The Simpsons Collectibles by Robert W. Getz,
found on our book list here!.
|
This is obviously based on the Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory movie poster.
Note how Krusty's clothing matches Willy Wonka's clothing, every character balanced on Krusty's arm
perfectly matches the Willy Wonka poster, both have characters peeking out from their jackets,
even the boat ride mirrored on the lower right of each drawing.

The Bongo Beat, Junk Mail |
Bongo Beat: A Night of a Thousand Stars discusses the gala premier party for Futurama.
The Homer Show cover is, of course, a parody of The Truman Show, the 1998 Jim Carrey movie.
|
The Classics Illustrative cover is a parody of Classics Illustrated.
Slobberwacky is itself a parody of Jabberwocky, a poem by Lewis Carroll, originally featured in
"Through The Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There", and it closely follows the original verse by verse.
It is no coincidence then that the No. 49 on this
cover was selected to correspond to the original Classics Illustrated #49
from July 1948 which was Alice in Wonderland, with the role of the Chesire Cat
being represented by our very own Snowball II replete with a mischievous grin. Perhaps we could
carry the analogy further, with the blond Alice being represented here by the blond Bart, and
"The World's Greatest Authors" represented by the writers at Bongo comics?

A Brief History of Bongo, by Matt Groening reviews the History of
Bongo and thanks the 300 people who made it possible.
The Where's Maggie? cover theme is, of course, the Bongo take on the "Where's Waldo" series of books.
|
Some fell in love with Laura Croft; for us it's Lisa Simpson. The lettering of the title for
the flip cover of Simpsons Comics #49 Storeroom Raider matches the lettering here of
Tomb Raider #1 from December 1999. Of course, instead of spraying bullets Lisa appears to be
spraying mousse.
